LPD Safaris Limited – Sungani - is recruiting an experienced Bush pilot for their Lodge and Camp located in The South Luangwa National Park.

A majority of the flights will be from Mfuwe airport to their airstrip based at the Lodge. Cross over flying for another operator in the Park and charters to and from Lower Zambezi and Lusaka.

Sungani aims to make every guest’s visit to its properties a “5 star” safari experience. The pilot’s overall responsibility is to transfer guests safely to and from their destination, care for the aircraft and the turbo, professional and focused with paperwork and filing. The Sungani protocol focuses on a warm personalised service, exclusivity, authenticity, professionalism, and a closeness to the wildlife/conservation.

The camp is in a remote part of the South Luangwa National Park, Zambia. The role will suit someone who is looking to further their career and become part of the growth of the Sungani brand. They will need to innovate and work well with the team on the ground. This person should be outgoing, flexible and a real people person. It would be desirable if they are passionate about the bush and conservation – which is a big part of Sungani’s mission.

As their properties are quite new, they would expect the pilot to be busy with transfers and other charter flights but there will be downtime. This person should be happy to get involved in other aspects or have an online course/other interest that will occupy them in their free time.
Required skills: The Pilot’s role includes the following aspects:

1. Carry out all flights needed as required by the operations of the company
2. This role will require the incumbent to perform pre- and post-flight inspections, fuel management, equipment and navigational systems management, hangar, facilities and maintenance management and operate their aircraft safely at all times.
3. Take full responsibility for the safety and operations of the flights
4. Maintain AVGAS issues and stocks on hand
5. Undergo compliancy training with Corporate Air in Lusaka
6. Organize any work that needs to be done on airplane
7. Full responsibility for organizing any regional authorizations and filings
8. Take full responsibility for the maintenance and continued airworthiness of the aircraft, respect the maintenance schedule and assist appointed maintenance engineers on site. Include the daily cleaning and continued care as well as assisting in sourcing equipment or parts that might be needed
9. Maintain flight logbook and admin up to date including monthly reporting
10. When the pilot is not flying, he is encouraged to support the regular operations (such as but not limited to, occasionally moving vehicles in camp and hosting guests)
11. Carry out any other relevant tasks that may be assigned from time to time by the director or Corporate Air

Required skills

  • C206 Type Rating: YES.
  • Languages: English
  • Required licences and certification to fly the Cessna T206H series aircraft
  • Commercially licensed pilot or higher with a minimum of 800 hours total fixed wing flying experience, a minimum of 50 hours on type – turbo rated
  • Possess valid SOFT courses ( SEPT, DG, CRM). In the event you do not hold these their management company will assist
  • Aircraft Operations and Repair, Survival skills, Flight Skills
  • Medical certificate
  • Valid and current Instrument rating  
  • Demonstrable experience in bush flying and remote operations and willing to be based in a remote area with minimal infrastructure and support
  • Good leadership and people management skills
  • Willingness to assist in other work than flying
  • Strong personal integrity and dependability
  • Knowledge and passion for conservation and wildlife would be a plus
  • Strong commitment to safe, efficient and compliant remote aerial operations

Offer:

  • Location: South Luangwa National Park. Please note - the lodge is very remote and can be accessed by road or by aeroplane. You would arrive via Lusaka, Zambia. It is also possible to fly via Lilongwe, Malawi. You will fly into Mfuwe International Airport. You will be met and either flown or driven to camp.
  • Double Accommodation – tented with built features.
  • Salary Negotiable based on experience. Gratuity will be included on a pro-rated basis based on contract.
  • 4 days per month off and 2 days leave per month. Time away needs to be strategised based on occupancy and need. Paid leave can be taken end of season.
