Chief Pilot CSWAFC Australia

ChinaSouthern West Australian Flying College (CSWAFC) is one of Australia's most productive ab-initio flight colleges. Operating out of Jandakot and Merredin Airports in Western Australia, CSWAFC trains student pilots for China's largest airline, China Southern Airlines Company Limited. They are currently looking for a Chief Pilot.

The Chief Pilot must accept the responsibility for the establishment and documenting of the operational standards for the organisation, and must monitor and maintain these operational standards to help ensure that the operator’s air operations are conducted in compliance with the Australian Aviation Act, Regulations, and Civil Aviation Orders.

The Chief Pilot must accept the responsibility for all flight crew training, and all operational matters affecting the safety of the College’s flying operations. The College’s operational standards are documented in the Operations Manual. 

Minimum requirements:
  • Single engine: more than 500 hours; 
  • Multi-engine: more than 1000 hours including 200 hours in command of Multi Engine Aircraft. Piper PA-44 Seminole experience is preferred; 
  • Must have the ability to pass an interview and flight check with a CASA FOI; 
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year experience in commercial operations; 
  • Must hold a current CASA Class 1 medical certificate; 
  • Must hold a Piper PA-44 Seminole endorsement; 
  • Must demonstrate leadership; 
  • Must be able to demonstrate an ability to work in a team environment; 
  • Must have effective time management skills; 
  • Must have interpersonal skills that befit the role; 
  • Verbal and written communication skills must be of a high level; 
  • Must have a proven ability to instruct, teach and mentor others; 
  • Must have an ability to approach problems and decisions impartially and analytically; 
  • Must be able to reason logically and methodically; 
  • Must be able to perform in stressful situations; 
  • Must demonstrate attention to detail in all aspects of the role. 
  • Must either be an Australian citizen or have the legal right to work and live in Australia

Desired qualifications:
  • FIR G1A with the following FIR DF, FIR CLR MEA and FIR A IR 
  • Flight Examiner Rating 
  • Current IR MEA IAP 2D IAP 3D 

Duties And Responsibilities:
  • The CP must accept further in accordance with CAO 82.0 Appendix 1: 
    • Record and process flight safety and operations issues without delay, particularly in regard to safety-related issues and has a basic understanding of an Safety Management System (SMS); 
    • Chair FOMC meetings, review and process feedback concerning any discrepancies and decisions regarding the implementation of all company policy changes implemented by the FOMC in accordance with the Australian Aviation Act, Regulations and Orders; 
    • Maintain a record of licences, ratings, and route qualifications held by each flight crew member, including validity, recency, type endorsements and any applicable licence restrictions; 
    • Provide any checks that may be required for a pilot, not earlier than one month prior, or later than 2 weeks prior to that requirement; 
    • Provide finish dates for all courses currently in progress at CSWAFC; 
    • Provide achievement objectives and directives for all staff within the context of the training program; 
    • Determine and meet training target dates; 
    • Liaise with aviation service providers; 
    • Ensure the efficient planning, monitoring and control of flight and duty times of line pilots within each Phase and maintain a system to record crew duty and flight times to ensure compliance with CAO Part 48; 
    • Liaise with Phase Managers to conduct periodic checks of flight records; 
    • Ensure that the operator’s air operations are conducted in compliance with the Act (CAA), the Regulations (CARs and CASRs), and the Civil Aviation Orders (CAOs); 
    • Maintain a system to record flight crew duty and flight times, to ensure the College’s compliance with duty and flight time limitations, in accordance with CAO Part 48; 
    • Ensure compliance with specified loading systems, supervise checking and training, conduct proficiency tests of emergency procedures, and train flight crew in the acceptance and handling of dangerous goods; 
    • Maintain a complete and up-to-date reference library of operational documents as required by the Authority (CASA) for the class of operations conducted; 
    • Allocate appropriate aircraft to each section of the operation; 
    • Achieve various performance targets.
